One group that is catered for in the various schemes is the workforce or rather the labor market, and this group has a great impact on the effectiveness of healthcare. This paper will be a discussion on whether the changing labor market in the United States has an impact on universal health care. A universal health care system refers to one specific provider of health care to the whole nation. This is a system that is governed by the same rules and takes care of individuals from all walks of life; an example could be the government taking care of all health care needs of its citizens. However, this is not the case in the United States, various health insurance institutions exist, each of them providing covers for different subgroups of the population (Madrian 138). Health insurance may be provided as a condition of employment, but sometimes it is provided when individuals are not employed or when on a part time job. Despite the fact that all these health insurance providers exist, the most significant health insurance providers are employers. These are followed by the government that provides 16.8 percent of the cover for the non-elderly population. Medicare is the largest government health insurance program, it provides cover for individuals that are above 65 years, as well as those that are below this age but are disabled, therefore eligible for social security insurance (Madrian 139).
